I’ve been following this election closely since I realized that we are going to see the end of the Bush administration.  I should just come right out and say that I’m one of those “God Damn Independents”.  I don’t pledge allegiance to any party; just America.  My degree is in foreign policy, so I tend to take a broader look at the issues: how they relate to the world, how people outside of the U.S. will perceive us, etc.  But, as Chris Rock put it, “George Bush f***** up so bad he made it hard for a white man to run for President!”

It’s important for all of you who read this blog (and everyone, period) to realize that this is the most important elections you will be a part of.  This is probably the most important election that you’re parents have ever been a part of, too.  Eight years ago when George W. Bush was elected, there was no “War on Terror”.  Terrorists were guys running around the sand dunes of the Middle East attacking each other, lightyears away from America.  Eight years ago, you could safely trust Wall Street to make you money in the stock market, your bank never thought of collapsing, and ultimately, your money was safe.  Eight years ago, America was welcomed the world over as liberators, the world’s greatest power, and everyone trusted us and our institutions.  I cannot write this without highlighting how important it is to realize that George W. Bush was not the sole cause of all of these changes in our world.  It was a snowball effect of bad policies, which created bad practices, and finally they all snowballed into a horrible result which is where we are today.

Whatever you do, please vote. We should be so lucky to have this opportunity in America. Other countries wish they had the voice in choosing their leadership and the direction their country should go.
